Women In the Food Industry supporter Victoria Stewart, freelance food journalist, will chair a discussion exploring new solutions for employers, catering colleges and the Mayor of London to raise the profile of creative chef careers, improve working standards and reform culinary education at an event at Claridge’s today – 3rd April 2019.

Great British Menu (GBM) returned to our screens on 20th March 2019 for series 14. The BBC Two show puts the nation’s most talented chefs to the test. At Women in the Food Industry we are interviewing the strong female line-up of chefs from across Britain competing to serve their dish at the final banquet. We interviewed Samira Effa, who was working for Alimentum, Cambridge, when she took part in the show.

We are delighted to announce we are joining small business community Enterprise Nation, with other experts in the food industry  for coffee and conversation in Manchester on 4th April 2019 from 10am to 11.30am.  In the first in a new series of free networking meet-ups  by Enterprise Nation you can join us and  fellow food and drink business owners at Hatch, the home of independent food and drink in Manchester.

For the last two years CODE, leading hospitality magazine and website. have published a list that honours women who “genuinely affect change in the hospitality industry.” We are delighted that so many supporters of Women In the Food Industry feature in this latest list of amazing women.

Our co-founder Mecca Ibrahim, interviews Olivia Burt Sous Chef of Claridge’s who has reached the regional finals of the Roux Scholarship. She is the first woman to do this since Sabrina Gidda made it to the finals 4 years ago.

On International Women’s Day, 8th March 2019, Mecca Ibrahim FRSA, co-founder of Women in The Food Industry, gave a talk at the Royal Society of Arts – RSA,  exploring issues common to women working in the field of food, from professional restaurants, hospitality, food, drink, farming, food journalism and blogging, right through to food photography. Just in time for International Women’s Day the  Lancaster Guardian reported on Better with Jam’s news and the partnership of our co-founders Janie Ash and Mecca Ibrahim . “A series of new events will bring together female food and drink leaders and entrepreneurs to discuss the issues impacting women working in food related careers in the United Kingdom” wrote Nick Lakin.
