International Women’s Day: An exploration into gender imbalance in the restaurant industry

Hospitality is a huge industry with over 2.4 million employees, which suggests that there is room for all to pursue a career within it. However, evidence like the gender pay gap and the lack of women running restaurants, bars, hotels, and other hospitality environments tells a different story. Women In The Food Industry – Christmas Party – Recap – 8th December 2025

Women in the Food Industry held a festive evening of canapés, Prosecco, a mini food fair and networking at Corner Corner, Canada Water. It was a chance to enjoy a canapes, Prosseco.DOC, Lucky Saint alcohol free lager, catch up with others in the industry, and make new conversations. We had a great selection of female food & drink suppliers offering tastings of their products plus the opportunity to buy some creative Christmas gifts.

Meet Alex Price Head of Wine at Plates – The UK’s first Plant-based Michelin Star restaurant

This year Plates became the first UK plant-based restaurant to be awarded a Michelin star, after siblings Kirk and Keeley Haworth opened in July 2024 in Old Street, East London. The British Library Food Season is in the 7th year of their highly popular talks on food, all inspired by their extensive food-related collections. The season is  a must-attend event for food lovers, industry professionals, and academics alike.
