The Conduit Food Systems Community Drinks – Monday 2nd December 2024
Join our supporters The Conduit – a members club for social impact – for Food Systems networking drinks on Monday 2nd December! Meet the burgeoning community committed to creating a sustainable, just and prosperous future for food.
Our co-founder Mex Ibrahim is a member at impact community The Conduit & through a LinkedIn Group – The Food Systems Community is helping to bring together all those committed to a more sustainable future for the food industry. Conduit members are entrepreneurs, investors, creatives, business leaders, activists, civil-society leaders and policymakers, bringing together knowledge, networks and capital for sustained positive impact. They have clubs in London and Oslo.
The networking drinks on 2nd December are a good way to find out more about how The Conduit team are working to find the most sustainable ingredients and food suppliers for the club itself and its rooftop restaurant Rucola. Plus they are a fantastic way to network with anyone interested in food systems and how they can be improved. Thanks to all who have attended these first of these networking drinks which we hold monthly and began in May 2024. Find out more about our last networking drinks in October.
The events are a great chance to exchange ideas with like minded food people & discuss key issues facing the food industry and overall food systems when it comes to sustainable food.
We will be meeting in the Ubuntu Lounge on the 3rd Floor (see above). You will also meet Beth Chamberlain from The Conduit’s membership team to chat about how they are working to source new sustainable suppliers & organising various related food events eg their Sustainable Food Events during London Climate Action Week.
Food suppliers at The Conduit include Neal’s Yard Dairy, Citizens of Soil, South Coast Fisheries, Lake District Farmers in Cumbria, Natoora and supplier Angry Monk who supply surplus “imperfect” fruit & veg to The Conduit. Instead of the vegetables going into a landfill to be wasted, by working with Angry Monk those ingredients are salvaged effectively. They are sourcing non-seasonal, non-local ingredients, (eg mangoes), but in a sustainable way.
The Conduit often host great free events that are relevant to sustainable food. For example they recently hosted an event on Navigating the new ESG Landscape.
The speakers were:
· Piers Scholfield, Director, Blakeney (moderator)
· Gina Camfield, Head of ESG at Food Service company Aramark UK and Global Offshore
· David Pettet, Group Head of Sustainability at Nomad Foods &
· Nick Rock, Global Co-Chair of DLA Piper’s Consumer Goods, Food & Retail sector
The speakers emphasised the global nature of sustainability regulations and the risks of avoiding them. Key points included the importance of integrating sustainability fully into business strategy (& the importance of communication to so that it wasn’t just inward looking but of benefit to the companies audiences), the need for accurate climate risk reporting, and the role of data quality in effective AI tools. Examples like Aramark’s use of Persefoni – for carbon accounting and the integration of sustainability into business operations were highlighted.
Our Networking Drinks event on 2nd December is free, drinks are available to buy from the bar at a special 20% discount.
