Working in partnership with Marketing Lancashire, and generously hosted by Lancaster University and Lancaster University’s Conference & Events our very first Northern event for Women in the Food Industry was a fantastic success. Here’s a recap of what took place.

Hundreds of votes from gastropub chefs, food writers, pub-guide editors, top pub industry suppliers and critics were counted to reveal the country’s best gastropubs across the country. This year’s Estrella Damm List of Top 50 Gastropubs shows a number of inspiring women running award-winning pub kitchens including the pub which reached the top spot – The Harwood Arms.

Head of Hospitality for Lancaster University, Ros Wilkinson is a highly experienced Hospitality, Tourism & Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism segment professional with experience in the Leisure Industry and Higher Education sector. Joycelyn Neve, founder and Managing Director of Seafood Pub Company, formed the business in 2010, combining her family heritage in the Lancashire fishing industry with a passion for the highest quality food and relaxed service.

Camilla was the youngest finalist in the history of the BBC Apprentice series, narrowly missing out in the final. Whilst Lord Sugar didn’t choose her, the CEO of Holland & Barrett was suitably impressed with her vegan nut milk M+LKPLUS and she went ahead to launch the dairy alternative into 645 of their stores where both flavours continue to sell out.

School Food Matters’ mission is to ensure that every child enjoys fresh sustainable food at school and understands where their food comes from.  Their founder and MD Stephanie Slater works with parents, children and schools to help to improve school meals and support food education through cooking, growing and visits to farms. We caught up with Stephanie to discover how she set up the initiative and explore what motivates and inspires her work and how we can help the organisation with their efforts.
