The Guild of Food Writers Awards 2024 Winners Announced : A look at the women who won

The Guild of Food Writers announced the winners for its annual Awards on 12th June 2024 at a glittering ceremony. One of the longest running awards in food writing and broadcasting the winners featured emerging talents such as Felicity Souter and Molly Codyre. Also some of the industry’s best-known female food writers and broadcasters, including Bee Wilson and Prue Leith gained great recognition for their achievements. Our co-founder Mecca Ibrahim is a member of The Guild of Food Writers and attended the ceremony at the Royal Institution in Mayfair. She highlights the women who took home awards  for 2024.

Introducing Stitches In Time’s Food Enterprise Project – Deshi Shad

Stitches in Time is a community arts, education and enterprise charity based in East London. They are launching an exciting new Food Enterprise Project – Deshi Shad – with Bangladeshi women in Tower Hamlets from September to December this year.  The aim is to practically support innovative & creative ideas to help into employment people living in a borough with the greatest levels of inequality in the country.

Skye Gyngell wins 2019 AYALA SquareMeal Female Chef of the Year

The SquareMeal Female Chef of the Year award was launched in 2018 to celebrate the huge contribution female chefs are making to the UK restaurant industry.  On 21st October 2019 Skye Gyngell chef-patron of Spring and culinary director of Heckfield Place became the second winner of the title. Skye was presented with her award at a Champagne reception at The Goring in Belgravia for the shortlisted chefs.

Women in the Food Industry Review of Taste of London 2019

Posing in front of the giant letters, selfies with celebrity chefs, checking out chef demos, trying samples of  food from London’s leading restaurants, drinking gin, tasting tea, chomping cheese and eating olives in the rain, that can only be Taste of London.  Love it or hate it, our co-founder, Mecca Ibrahim, visited what is still London’s biggest food and drink festival and shares her thoughts & highlights of the four day festival which runs from June 19 – June 23 in Regent’s Park.

Food: Bigger than the Plate Exhibition at the V & A – Women In the Food Industry Review

Quirky, surprising, beautiful, revolting, tasty, synthetic, thought-provoking, eye-brow raising but never, ever dull.  If you’re interested in food, its origins and its future you must go to Food: Bigger Than The Plate – the new exhibition at the V & A Museum in London.  Our co-founder, Mecca Ibrahim, went along to the show’s public opening on 18 May to see the museum’s take on the politics and pleasure of food.

Review of Scripts For Supper – The Wind in The Willows – Theatre & Dining Experience

Scripts for Supper is the brain-child of former MasterChef semi-finalist Annie McKenzie. It’s an immersive dining experience, adapting classic stories, served with a menu inspired by the story. Fellow MasterChef finalist Juanita Hennessey is now Head Chef and designed a seasonal menu to match the much loved The Wind in The Willows. Our co-founder, Mecca Ibrahim, went along to a preview at Stepney City Farm.
