Women in the Food Industry brought you an insightful panel event, with a showcase of South Asian snacks, & soft drinks. You will have met an inspirational panel of women who are leveraging their food businesses to promote intercultural dialogue & also discovered the challenges they faced as South Asian women in the food industry and how they overcame them.

Great British Menu (GBM) returns to our screens on January 23rd for season 19. The BBC2 show puts the nation’s most talented chefs to the test. At Women in the Food Industry we are continuing our series of interviews with the strong female line-up of chefs from across Britain competing to serve their dish at the final banquet. Our co-founder, Mecca Ibrahim, interviewed Samira Effa, Head Chef at Grantley Hall’s pan-Asian restaurant, Bar & Restaurant EightyEight.

Our panel features five remarkable women who have made their mark in the culinary world, breaking down gender barriers and championing sustainability, mindful cooking, and food heritage.

Speciality & Fine Food Fair, the UK’s leading showcase of artisanal food and drink, is returning from the 11th – 12th of September at Olympia, London. It’s a free industry event, designed as a food festival. Our co-founder, Mecca Ibrahim, is delighted to be chairing a session in the Trends Theatre on 11th September called Representing Diverse Food Cultures in Retail. Read on to find out about the esteemed women in the food industry on the panel and what you will takeaway from the panel and the event.

The British Library are in the 4th year of their highly popular talks on food, all inspired by their extensive food-related collections. Many of the events feature prominent women in the food industry. The events start on 13th April and run until late May 2021. We highlight some of our favourites.

Our co-founder, Mecca Ibrahim, interviewed Harriet Mansell, who is opening up a pop-up restaurant Robin Wylde in Lyme Regis.

Stitches in Time is a community arts, education and enterprise charity based in East London. They are launching an exciting new Food Enterprise Project – Deshi Shad – with Bangladeshi women in Tower Hamlets from September to December this year.  The aim is to practically support innovative & creative ideas to help into employment people living in a borough with the greatest levels of inequality in the country.

On July 26 Anishya Kumar of Zinda Foods won Businesswoman of the Year at the British Indian Awards 2019. We were delighted to hear this news, as our co-founder, Mecca Ibrahim, had interviewed her for our very first Female Food Founders series in May. We returned to her AirWrap factory in West Drayton to find out more about what we could learn from her win and what motivates her.

Posing in front of the giant letters, selfies with celebrity chefs, checking out chef demos, trying samples of  food from London’s leading restaurants, drinking gin, tasting tea, chomping cheese and eating olives in the rain, that can only be Taste of London.  Love it or hate it, our co-founder, Mecca Ibrahim, visited what is still London’s biggest food and drink festival and shares her thoughts & highlights of the four day festival which runs from June 19 – June 23 in Regent’s Park. 

Quirky, surprising, beautiful, revolting, tasty, synthetic, thought-provoking, eye-brow raising but never, ever dull.  If you’re interested in food, its origins and its future you must go to Food: Bigger Than The Plate – the new exhibition at the V & A Museum in London.  Our co-founder, Mecca Ibrahim, went along to the show’s public opening on 18 May to see the museum’s take on the politics and pleasure of food.
